OpenAI has announced that customers can now use ChatGPT without creating an account. Up until now, people need to sign up to access the U.S.-based firm's AI tool. The announcement has sparked enthusiasm among tech enthusiasts, but there's a catch. The users won't be able to save or share their conversations without making the account, which means their chats will be lost and cannot be restored if the ChatGPT site is shut down. Additionally, services like voice conversations and personalised instructions will not be available and remain exclusive to account holders. The company announced on its official X (formerly Twitter) account that interested individuals can use ChatGPT without having to sign up starting today. It further stated ‘’We're rolling this out gradually, with the aim to make AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities.’’
ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is an AI chatbot created by OpenAI, which was introduced in November 2022. The AI tool employs natural language processing to produce interactive conversations that resemble those of a human. The language model may respond to queries and create a range of textual content, including essays, articles, emails, and social media posts. The generative AI tool enables customers to provide instructions for getting human-like graphics, text, or videos. There are two versions of ChatGPT available online: GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.
According to reports, the free ChatGPT version, based on GPT-3.5, can be used without an account. However, the more potent and cutting-edge GPT-4 Turbo version will require a subscription fee and account registration.
OpenAI states that ChatGPT is used weekly by over 100 million users in 185 countries. According to sources, the AI tool gained over 100 million users by January 2023, making it the fastest-growing consumer software program in history. This growth has contributed to OpenAI's existing worth of USD 80 billion. In terms of market rivalry, ChatGPT competes with a host of AI chatbots like Bing Chat, Gemini, Llama 2, and Codewhisperer.
