While facts about Gears of War: E-Day's gameplay remain unknown, a cinematic trailer has been released, providing a glimpse into the game's plot. As the title implies, the upcoming chapter takes place around Emergence Day and includes younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. The trailer depicts a young Marcus fighting desperately against a massive, terrifying monster. He's barely hanging on when his friend Dom pulls him to safety. It appears that Marcus is lucky to have survived because this is the first time he has encountered these beings.
Additionally, E-Day's developers have stated that it is a prequel to the original Gears of War game rather than a spin-off. The game is set 14 years before the first Gears of War. It will demonstrate how the Locust Horde arrived on the scene and how humanity was unprepared to face these horrific new enemies. The trailer concludes with Dom Santiago and Marcus looking over a metropolis being swallowed up by a giant gap that caves in the entire land it is built on. Dom Santiago and Marcus Fenix are survivors of the Pendulum Wars, which transpired before the events of the first Gears of War game. They will now have to deal with the Locust Horde invasion.
