WhatsApp has always been committed to improving the user experience by introducing new features that encourage convenience and ease of use. In keeping with this, Meta's messaging platform introduced a voice message transcript feature for both Android and iOS smartphones, allowing users to view a written version of voice messages received. This new feature is designed to be especially helpful in situations where listening to voice messages is difficult, such as while on the move or in noisy environments. It will be rolled out to people worldwide in the following weeks.
For the uninitiated, WhatsApp introduced a drafts label for unread messages in chats and a new home screen widget for iOS users earlier this month. With these ongoing updates, WhatsApp continues to improve its service, making it more versatile and user-friendly.

-Go to settings, and select the ‘Chats’ section.
-Hit the ‘Voice message transcripts’ to activate the new WhatsApp function
-Once activated, you can choose your preferred transcript language.
-After turning on the feature, you'll have to long-press a voice message and select ‘transcribe’ to obtain a transcript.
It's essential to keep in mind that this feature will not automatically transcribe all voice messages.
According to WhatsApp, voice message transcriptions will be generated locally on the device, which means no third party can access or read them. The feature will not compromise message privacy, as all communications remain fully encrypted with end-to-end protection. To preserve privacy and control over private messages, the Meta-owned company claims that the transcript will only be accessible to the recipient and not the sender.

Notably, the iOS version currently offers support for a broad range of languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Thai, Turkish, and Swedish. On the other hand, the Android version is limited to English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. As the feature evolves, it’s expected that more languages may be added to both versions.
