Skoda has unveiled the Vision Gran Turismo race car concept for the Gran Turismo video game. This is the brand's debut in Gran Turismo 7. Presenting an all-electric single-seater with futuristic design features, the Skoda Vision Gran Turismo is a daring step into the virtual racing world. Approximately 1,300kg in weight, 4,410mm in length, 1,950mm in width, and 949mm in height, this elegant concept vehicle is a performance and agility machine. Four electric motors and an 87 kWh lithium-ion battery power its remarkable 1,073bhp and 1,020Nm of torque. Moreover, a single-speed gearbox and an independent-arms pushrod suspension system on the Vision Gran Turismo guarantee an exciting virtual driving experience.
Head of Škoda Design Oliver Stefani said: "When the Škoda Auto design team embarked on this very special project, we decided to create a futuristic version of the Škoda 1100 OHC Spider for the digital age, an innovative fusion of past and future that also includes elements from our new Modern Solid design language. The result is a fascinating blend of traditional motorsport and a virtual electric racing future."
In addition to having an 87kWh lithium-ion battery powered by a single-speed gearbox, this car has a 4WD system that splits torque between its axles for exceptional cornering. Like Formula E technology, its pushrod suspension system reduces body roll and lowers the centre of gravity. In addition, it improves stability at high speeds. Just 1,300kg in weight, it offers improved driving dynamics and efficiency. To further enhance its appeal, the Skoda development and design team painstakingly created a unique sound signature for this vehicle.
The outside design honours the legendary 1957 Skoda 1100 OHC Spider racer even if it is a dramatic departure from Skoda's current range. Including components of Skoda's recently unveiled Modern Solid design language, as seen in the Vision 7S, this idea paves the way for the next electric vehicles from the company.
