Paytm has introduced UPI payment services for select international locations, enabling Indian users to make direct payments while traveling abroad. This feature allows transactions directly from bank accounts at partnered merchants, eliminating the need for cash or international cards. Initially available in a few countries, this move simplifies cross-border payments and adds convenience for Indian travellers. By expanding UPI services globally, Paytm aims to enhance its digital payment offerings and provide a seamless experience for users.

Paytm Enables International Payments

Paytm has rolled out UPI International, a service that lets Indian travellers make UPI payments at select global destinations. This feature supports cashless transactions through the Paytm app in countries such as the UAE, France, Mauritius, Singapore, Bhutan, and Nepal. Paytm also provides live foreign exchange rates and fee details before each transaction. This service allows hassle-free payments at tourist hotspots like shops, cafés, and markets.

A company representative outlined the purpose behind the launch, stating, 'As a pioneer in mobile payments in India, we are committed to continuous innovation to make transactions easier for our users. With UPI International, we’re excited to empower Indian travelers to make secure, cashless payments in destinations such as the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal.'

The activation process for UPI International is simple and involves a one-time setup linked to the user’s bank account. While abroad, scanning a UPI-enabled QR code triggers a prompt for activation. Travellers can choose a usage duration between 1 and 90 days, with the option to deactivate upon returning to India for added security. To ensure transparency, the app displays real-time foreign exchange rates and conversion fees, helping users make informed spending decisions.
