Instagram has introduced a new multi-track audio option for Reels, and users can already access it. This latest development from the social media platform comes shortly after Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced that short-form content would take precedence over lengthy videos on the photo and video-sharing application. With the release of the Instagram Reels update, users may now incorporate various audio files into a single reel, giving them the ability to utilise their smartphones to create creative mixes as per their preference. If you are someone who enjoys making Reels, here's a guide on how you can use this feature.

In an Instagram post, Mosseri announced the availability of Multi-audio Track capability, allowing users to add up to 20 tracks to a single Reel and enhancing their creative freedom while creating content. The creator can alter the Reel with stickers, clips, and other features, and synchronise the audio with the text. The application will create a fading effect, and the audio segments can overlap. Instagram noted while introducing the feature, 'With the flexibility to pair the right tracks with the right clips at the right time, one can express their creativity the way that feels right for them and their audience.' When a user produces a mix, it is saved and credited to them. According to the company, other people can also reuse these combined audio clips. Instagram has started rolling out the feature for its Indian users.
The introduction of the multi-track feature for Reels coincides with Mosseri's remark that Instagram will give priority to short-form content on the platform. According to the CEO, users frequently share short videos with others who share their interests when they come across them. It is stated that this accomplishes two "symbiotic" goals for users: it lets them connect with friends and follow their interests. Therefore, Instagram will emphasise short-form content over longer clips.
Earlier, users could upload hour-long videos to the Meta-owned service's independent long-form video platform, IGTV, which debuted in 2018. Nevertheless, it was discontinued in 2022 as a result of the company reorienting its priorities to bolstering short-form content, especially after Instagram Reels were released the year before.
