Instagram has rolled out several new features to enhance its Direct Messaging (DM) experience, including live location sharing, nicknames, and an expanded range of stickers. The live location sharing feature allows users to share their real-time location with friends or family for a specified duration, adding a layer of convenience and safety to the platform. Additionally, the introduction of nicknames enables users to personalise their chats by assigning custom names to their contacts. Instagram has also enriched its sticker collection for DMs, offering users more creative ways to express themselves. These updates aim to make conversations more engaging, personalised, and interactive, reflecting Instagram’s ongoing efforts to improve user experience and strengthen its position as a versatile communication platform.

Instagram has introduced several new features to enhance the Direct Messaging (DM) experience. Users can now share their live location for up to an hour or mark specific locations on a map, making it easier to coordinate meetups, track arrivals, or find each other in crowded spaces – ideal for events like concerts or group outings. The feature is private, limited to the selected chat, and can be disabled anytime. A visible notification ensures users are aware when live location sharing is active, prioritising security and privacy.
In addition, Instagram has launched 17 sticker packs with over 300 options, allowing users to make chats more vibrant and expressive. Stickers can be saved or reused, enabling fun and personalised interactions.

The app also now supports nicknames in DMs, giving users the ability to assign custom names to contacts for a more personal touch. These nicknames are exclusive to chat threads and can be updated or removed at any time. To set a nickname, simply select the chat name, tap “Nicknames,” and choose the person to customise.
Apart from these newly introduced features, the social media platform is planning to roll out the 'Reset Recommendations' feature. With this, the users will soon have the option to manually adjust the recommendation algorithm that suggests content for their feeds. Although currently under testing, the new function allows users to reset their content recommendations, giving them a fresh start with personalised suggestions across Explore, Reels, and Feed. Users can also revisit their list of followed profiles, removing accounts that no longer align with their preferences.
While this Reset Content Recommendations option refines the feed to match individual interests, it does not erase any existing app data or impact how ads are displayed on the platform.
