Google is set to unveil its new Pixel 9 series at the upcoming Made by Google 2024 event on August 13. While the global market will witness the launch of four new Pixel smartphones (Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold) on the said date, the recent listing of the top-tier Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold phones on Flipkart indicates that Google could bring only these two models to India. However, Google's India online store has listed the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. We will have to wait two more days for Google to reveal whether it will launch the entire Pixel 9 lineup in India or just two of the four devices.
Last year, the US-based company brought in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, giving a miss to the Pixel Fold. This time, Google might introduce only the top-tier models in India, likely carrying higher price tags. The Google Pixel 9 series will run on Google's Tensor G4 processor and is expected to be shipped with Android 15, boasting new AI (artificial intelligence) features such as Pixel Studio and Reimagine.

Per leaks and teasers, the Pixel 9 series will have a sharper, more angular look with flat edges. Complementing this could be uniform bezels around the screen, in turn enhancing the visual appeal of the Pixel 9 series. Besides, all Pixel 9 cameras are expected to receive significant upgrades, taking inspiration from the original Pixel Fold with a floating camera bar.
Speaking of which, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL could feature a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 primary sensor and two 48-megapixel sensors for ultra-wide and telephoto units. On the front, the model could house a 42-megapixel camera.
Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is likely to be offered with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX787 main sensor, a 12-megapixel Samsung 3LU ultra-wide sensor, and a 12-megapixel Samsung 3J1 telephoto sensor with optical zoom. Both inner and outer front-facing cameras could be rated at 10-megapixels.
The Google Pixel 9 series is expected to sport brighter display panels. Market reports suggest the Pixel 9 Pro XL will get a 6.8-inch display with 2,050 nits of peak brightness. On the other hand, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to feature a taller 7.6-inch display with 1,600 nits when unfolded, while the external display will be around 6.3 inches (with 1,800 nits) when folded.
The battery of the Pixel 9 Pro XL is likely to be a 5,400mAh unit, whereas the Pro Fold is expected to have a smaller 4,800mAh battery. The 9 Pro Fold will mark Google's entry into the foldable phone segment.
