It’s not a smart watch, but the Casio G-Shock G’Mix GBA-400 can connect to your smart-phone and allows you to control your music.
A G-Shock really fits all personalities. Whether you like the outdoors, or you enjoy heading to the race track, or if you head to the gym on a regular basis, a G-Shock can really be utilized for almost everything. We recently got our hands on the new G’MIX series from Casio, and we used it for a whole week.
The G’MIX series is essentially a basic G-Shock model that comes with a Bluetooth feature that allows you to connect to your smartphone and control the settings of your watch from your phone, but more importantly, it lets you control your music on your phone right from the watch. This can come in handy in many situations. Let’s assume you are out for any outdoor activity and you have your smartphone playing music from a docking system, or it’s in your pocket, you don’t need to worry about controlling the music because the remote control – the watch – is around your wrist and is easy to function. It can come in handy more than you think.
With the help of the G’MIX music app, some of the awesome features of the G’MIX series is that you can adjust music playback settings from the watch, without even taking out your phone. Another cool feature is that you can also use your smartphone to search for a song playing from a different source and display its title on the watch, very similar to the famous Shazaam application. The app also allows you to produce sounds from your phone by pressing a watch button, although we didn’t find much use for this feature except personalising your buttons. You can control all kinds of functions for music play back such as search, select track and volume control.
Another cool feature is that you can use your smartphone display to configure the World Time City, alarm time, timer start time, and other often-used settings without performing troublesome watch button operations. Just use the app and the settings are immediately sent to the watch. One might wonder why not just simply use google on your smartphone, but that’s because the app is very easy to use and a bit faster than using google search.
Like all G-Shock watches, it is built to be tough and it didn’t matter, if I was playing basketball, taking part in a hardcore off-road event in a rain-forest, or even when I was swimming, the watch was always comfortable on my wrist and stood up to every hostile condition. It also looked great in red. If you aren’t looking for over the top features and if you always listen to music on your phone then this could be a very nice accessory for you, and not to mention it is also very affordable and built to last a lifetime.
