Amazon has expanded its popular Kindle range with the launch of four new models. Leading the announcement is the brand-new Colorsoft Signature Edition, the brand’s first-ever e-reader featuring a colour e-ink display. Alongside it, the company has introduced an improved Kindle Scribe, an updated Kindle Paperwhite, and an entry-level Kindle, each equipped with enhanced features. These new models bring improvements like AI-powered functionalities, faster page navigation, and water-resistant designs, appealing to both casual readers and dedicated e-book enthusiasts. Details about the launch in India currently remain under wraps. Here's a breakdown of everything you need to know about these latest releases.
The new Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition from Amazon is priced at USD 279.99 (approximately Rs 24,000) in the U.S., with availability beginning on October 30. The entry-level Kindle is priced at USD 109.99 (roughly Rs 9,000), while the Kindle Paperwhite costs USD 159.99 (about Rs 13,000). The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is listed at USD 189.99 (around Rs 16,000). The most expensive e-reader in Amazon's range, the Kindle Scribe, retails for USD 399.99 (approximately Rs 34,000) and will be available for purchase starting December 4.
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is equipped with a light guide using nitride LEDs that, according to Amazon, produce colours resembling those on paper. It utilises an oxide backplane combined with custom waveforms to enhance performance and improve contrast for colour and monochrome content. Users can choose between standard and vibrant colour settings to suit their preferences. This model is waterproof and boasts a battery life of up to eight weeks on a single charge.
The Kindle Scribe is packed with features. It is positioned as an AI-driven note-taking device, featuring a 10.2-inch screen with a pixel density of 300ppi. Included with the device is a Premium Pen that now comes with a soft-tipped eraser. The Kindle Scribe’s new Active Canvas functionality allows users to write notes that are integrated into the page, ensuring they remain in place even when adjusting elements like font size or layout. This AI-enabled notebook can also summarise text into bullet points in a script font that can be easily shared in the Notes section, and it can recognise and convert handwritten notes into typed text.
Furthermore, Amazon has revamped its Kindle Paperwhite, now offering a Signature Edition version. This model boasts a larger 7-inch e-ink display featuring a new oxide thin-film transistor for enhanced contrast. The updated Kindle Paperwhite reportedly offers 25 per cent faster page turns compared to its predecessor. The standard model includes 16GB of storage, while the Signature Edition offers a boost to 32GB. It is also claimed to provide up to three months of battery life.
Lastly, the e-commerce giant has updated its entry-level Kindle, providing an affordable choice for readers. Although the updates are limited compared to the previous model, this version now includes quicker page turns and offers 16GB of storage.
